The Pop Buy Glossary 🫧
Everything we call things, and what they mean. Two minutes to fluency.
The basics
Bubble — a deal, floating near you. Merchants blow them; you catch sight of them on your map, your feed, or a friend's share. Every Bubble has a lifespan — when it expires, it's gone.
Pop — claiming a Bubble. Walk close enough (usually within a couple hundred feet of the shop), tap Pop, and the deal's redemption code unlocks for you. Popping is the whole point — it's in our name.
Popper — you! Everyone on Pop Buy who pops Bubbles is a Popper.
Blow — the verb for both ends of a Bubble's life. A merchant blows a Bubble into the world; a Popper blows it onward to their followers, and it lands in their feeds with your name on it — "@you blew you a Bubble." You can blow each Bubble once, so make it count. Your blow is your word.
Floating — what Bubbles do until someone pops them or time runs out. "7 floating near you" means seven live deals in range.
The Bubble — your social feed: everything the Poppers and merchants you follow have blown or posted. It isn't limited by distance — that's the point. Your favorite spot across town does a giveaway with a two-mile radius? You still see it, because you follow them.
The four kinds
Bubble — the classic. Pop it at the place: the code unlocks when you're physically nearby, and you redeem at the counter.
Coupon — a scannable code with no location of its own. Clip it to your Wallet and show it at any register that takes it — grocery-aisle brands live here. No geofence.
Online — a typed code for a merchant's website. No location, no scan — pop it from anywhere and type it at checkout.
Floater — a deal you buy without visiting first. Floaters have a Buy button instead of Pop — it takes you straight to the merchant's own purchase page. Pop Buy never handles your payment — you buy directly from the merchant, they keep every cent, and their receipt or certificate is what you redeem. When you head off to grab one: Caught! 🫧
Popping, step by step
The unlock radius — most Bubbles unlock within ~250 feet of the shop. Too far? The Pop button tells you, and Take Me There gives you directions.
The access window — after you pop, you have one hour to redeem. Lost your code mid-walk? Re-open the Bubble within the hour — you're covered.
Reveal once — when you're at the counter, tap Reveal and your code shows for five minutes. Screenshot-proof by design: codes are for the counter, not for passing around. Have the cashier ready before you tap.
The Wallet — where your clipped Coupons live. At the register, select as many as you're using and Pop them together — one trip, one reveal each.
"Only X left 🔥" — some Bubbles have limited redemptions. When the counter's burning, hustle.
Maxed out 🔥 — the Bubble hit the limit its merchant set before you got there. Not sold out — wanted out. Follow the merchant so you're earlier next time.
Your profile
Followers / Following — Pop Buy is social. Follow friends to see what they blow; follow merchants to catch every Bubble they float, wherever you are.
Blows / Pops — your track record, right on your profile.
Handle — your @name. Lowercase letters, numbers, underscores; 3–30 characters; yours alone.
Wallet vs. Pops — the Wallet is what you're carrying; Pops are what you've redeemed.
Bubble Up
Bubble Up — ask a merchant for the deal you want. Visit their storefront, tap Bubble Up, and propose it — privately. If they like it, they set the terms; you accept; and it becomes a rally: your followers and neighbors back it until it hits the merchant's threshold, and then the Bubble is born, with your name on it. Starting one is a Soar perk; backing one is open to everyone.
Rally — a Bubble Up that's live and gathering backers. The thermometer shows real backers and the real clock — nothing invented.
Merchants
Storefront — a merchant's home on Pop Buy, whether they have one door, fifty, or none. Own a business? Create yours from Settings → Plans & upgrades.
Verified / Founding — badges on storefronts. Verified means we've confirmed the business is real; Founding means they were here from the start.
Ended early — sometimes a merchant takes a Bubble down (wrong price, kitchen ran out — it happens). The Bubble's page says so honestly instead of vanishing.
